Head Office

Our Head Office Industrial Placements

Our Head Office is at the very centre of everything Aldi. Which is why we won’t waste any of your time. You’ll get an amazing introduction to our business, packed with world-class training. And you’ll have a mentor to support you throughout. Then, you’ll get immersed in at least one project, making decisions that will have a real impact on our business. There aren’t many students who can go back to university saying that.

Corporate Buying

Don’t be fooled by the word ‘Buying’ here. This large corporate department covers every aspect of the product lifecycle, from concept to shelf. During your training you will gain a broad overview of Corporate Responsibility (CR), Quality Assurance, PR & Marketing, and Corporate Logistics. None of these areas work in isolation, so it’s important to understand them all.

The rest of the your time will be spent specialising in say Corporate Responsibility or PR & Marketing, depending on the needs of the business, your choice of degree and your future plans
Whichever area you join, you’ll be a real asset to your colleagues, working on personal and team projects, building relationships and solving problems in an environment where things change on a daily basis

We’re a business that welcomes fresh thinking so we’ll be hungry for new ideas and perspectives. You’ll be a naturally curious, enthusiastic person who is happy to speak up in meetings and get themselves noticed. This isn’t about your degree, it’s about your attitude: the passion you show for doing the very best job, whatever challenges you face.

Corporate Responsibility

Just like the rest of Aldi, we’re a positive, hardworking team who enjoy coming up with new processes and business change. But rather than having a commercial focus, we’re motivated by making a difference to people and the planet. Ideally with a relevant degree, we want to recruit an individual that is as passionate about British farming, food and our global environmental impact as much as we are. You’ll be based in our Resources team (Farming, Fish, Forestry and Fair Trade) but also get chance to work on projects across CR related to Health & Nutrition, Ethical Trading and Communities.

It’s a rare placement; relevant business experience that will stretch your thinking and question your lifestyle choices, as you help a global business implement social and environmental solutions

eCommerce

Proactive, switched-on, insightful. That’s you. You know what’s going on in the digital marketplace and you’re fascinated by the latest ventures and cutting-edge thinking. We’re embarking on the best kind of journey; one that will see Aldi doing great things our way. This is the store that never closes. More products are being added all the time. We know more than ever before about what our customers want from us. And we love to question everything.

With rotations and mini-projects, you’ll get a fantastic, well-rounded view of an online business. There’s the technology side of things (how can we design and build new functionality for the website?); customer insights (particularly using analytics to drill down into customer detail); online trading (how can we maximise the commercial performance of the site on any given day or time of year such as Christmas?) and content (which is really beneficial for anyone who’s doing a marketing or visual degree). This placement offers a great structure that will give you a rare view of our world and every opportunity you need to progress.

You’ll impress us by how much you’ve researched Aldi and the marketplace and this will shine through in the interview. A relevant degree is handy, but it’s your curiosity and passion that will really stand you in good stead. After the placement, your new-found digital skills will be transferable across any organisation. (If we haven’t snapped you up, that is).

Global Business Coordination

The Global Business Coordination team plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between the IT and Commercial sides of the business, ensuring a collaborative approach is employed in defining how technology can help us to craft “Everyday Amazing” Customer Experiences and shape Aldi’s future.  Working across the international business  with exciting opportunities to travel, you’ll be helping to lead multiple digitally focused projects to improve customer experiences, internal processes and systems, and deliver improvements across the areas of Marketing, Customer Service, eCommerce and Digital Content.

Depending on your area of interest and your choice of degree, you’ll have exposure to various areas within the department, which include global strategy development & implementation, training & testing,  processes & planning as well as technology development & standards.  You’ll gain valuable project management skills and build strong stakeholder relationships in a fast paced environment where two days are never the same. This, combined with working for one of the leading global retailers, is an opportunity not to be missed.

IT

The National IT department is at the very heart of Aldi. We support a great mix of applications and processes that have been around for a long time, combined with being at the cutting edge when we need to be. For example, we heard about Apple Pay, investigated what it would mean to our business, and then launched it on the day it was released. We’re proactive and able to react quickly to business needs which is critical in the fast paced world of retail.

Like the rest of Aldi we are made up of small high performing teams. You can expect plenty of exposure and hands-on experience of an IT department within a global company. Training will involve you spending time with everyone, getting a real feel for the whole department and being part of a “home” team with a mentor.

Typically, you could join us as part of a technical team supporting the live business, part of a large scale project team or even have responsibility for a smaller scale project by yourself. Many of the opportunities available will depend on the business needs at the time. And, trust us, there’s always plenty going on at Aldi - our business is constantly growing and developing.

We’ll invest real time in you and, by the end of the year, we want you to have delivered something tangible for Aldi. IT degrees are useful but it’s more about having a natural interest in IT and a passion for what we’re trying to achieve as a business.

Corporate Logistics

Joining a Corporate Logistics Industrial Placement you will be working in the team responsible for getting the products from the Buying source to our Distribution Centres across the UK and Ireland on time, every time.

We move millions of pallets of products each year via air, sea, road and rail from all four corners of the planet, from biscuits in Montreal to mangoes from Senegal we move it. Aside from ensuring everything received by our Regions is in pristine condition, we work tirelessly with the Buyers to ensure market leading supply chain costs are achieved, therefore a keen interest in how international supply chains operate is a must.

Within the placement you can expect to spend time with all the teams within Corporate Logistics who look after the various elements of the Aldi supply chain, prior to being handed a major project to undertake, which could focus on any element of our Logistics network and how service can be improved or costs can be reduced. You will have real responsibility that will culminate in a tangible bottom line value being added to a major global business within your time on the placement. This is something that will certainly set you apart when returning to your final year of study.
