Quality Control

About Us

At Aldi, we pride ourselves on providing the highest quality products, at the lowest price. So Quality Control is an incredibly thorough process for us. Before anything goes out to our stores, we perform all kinds of ‘spot checks’ on the short-life products that come into the Distribution Centre, such as fruit and vegetables, flowers, meats, fish and bakery goods.

It’s not just about being committed to our customers - there are also legal requirements that we must adhere to. We have to make sure that our products meet certain legal standards as well as our own internal quality standards. At Aldi, we’ve set very strict criteria that the products have to live up to, with a zero tolerance policy.

Technology plays a big part. Driven by our love of efficiency, we use a tablet system that enables us to centralise our product specifications. That means we can access, update and share information in real time. If anything isn’t of the highest quality, all stakeholders will know about it – and quickly. No stone left unturned, no satsuma left unprodded. It’s what our customers deserve, and why they keep coming back for more.

What kind of roles are there?

There are roles at every level, from QC Leader to QC Assistant. If you show the right qualities and blaze a trail with your wonderful ideas and skills – there are clear paths to experience them all.

Quality Control Leader

Quality Control Leader

With the Trading Director as your boss, you’ll be out in the warehouse guiding and supporting your team of Quality Control Assistants. Under your watchful eye, your Assistants will carefully and scrupulously check the pallets to ensure that our short-life products are absolutely perfect when they leave our warehouses. If anything is below standard, you’ll authorise the Assistant’s decision to reject it.

As well as supporting the Assistants in their checks, you’ll have a number of personnel duties, such as co-ordinating rotas and organising training. Added to that, your days will be very busy visiting suppliers, summarising results from quality checks and providing meaningful feedback to the Trading Director. You’ll also place orders with suppliers, depending on the results gathered from stores across the region.

This role has a vital part to play in our reputation and success. (Consumer group Which? recently named us ‘Best Supermarket’, so no pressure then.)

Benefits

  • £43,800 rising to £47,575 after 4 years
  • 5-day/48-hour week, will include weekends
  • 5 weeks’ annual leave plus Bank Holidays
  • Full training provided
  • Company pension after 4 years
  • Private employee medical insurance after 4 years
  • Company sick pay scheme
  • Company maternity, paternity and adoption leave after 2 years
  • Long service awards

Please note conditions apply to the above and specifics will be discussed at job offer stage.

  • Market-leading package

Yes, the rumours are true: we pay incredibly well. But in return, we’ll ask a lot of you. That’s why we want you to feel looked after.

  • Nice working environment

Fresh. Energised. Attractive. Those are just some of the terms you could use to describe where you’ll work. It’s the kind of place where you can do great things. A place where your ideas will be heard and you’ll have the freedom to put them into action.

  • Excellent work-life balance

We always make sure our people have a great work-life balance. Plenty of time off, fantastic benefits and some decent salaries to holiday in style.

  • Great opportunities to develop

At Aldi we’ll value you for what you can do, rather than where you’ve come from. So we’ll accept, recognise and often implement your ideas and recognise your contribution. We’ll also do our best to help you develop – either in your role or across different functions.

Quality Control Deputy

A real people person, you’ll keep the team happy and motivated, ensuring that our products comply with our exacting standards. Attention to detail is a must and you’re passionate about our business, our produce and what we’re trying to achieve for our customers. You’ll also have the flexibility to work shifts which could include nights.

Stamina? Check. Personal pride in your role? Double check. You’ll be the person we’ll count on to keep everything moving beautifully.

Quality Control Assistant

Quality Control Assistant

Working in a fast-moving warehouse environment, you’ll provide a speedy and efficient Quality Control service. Reporting to the Quality Control Leader, you’ll ‘spot check’ pallets of short-life produce using our fancy tablet system.

Full training will be provided but you will need to bring some great attributes of your own. For instance, things can get very busy so you’ll need to be energetic with the desire to ‘get things done’. You’ll also need the flexibility to work different shift patterns, which could include nights.

But most importantly, you’ll have an amazing attention to detail. You’ll be looking at the country of origin, the dimensions and weight, all kinds of things. Essentially, this role is about checking that the products we receive match the specifications that we’re given. For example, does the cut of meat weigh the amount that it says it does?

All in all, this is a busy and challenging role that’s crucial in helping to keep our customers happy. What could be better than that?
